Job Description: Radiation Therapist

Position Summary:
A Radiation Therapist plays a critical role in the healthcare team by delivering prescribed radiation treatments to patients with cancer and other diseases. They work under the direction of a radiation oncologist and ensure treatments are administered accurately and safely while providing compassionate care and support to patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer prescribed radiation therapy treatments using advanced medical equipment.
  • Prepare and position patients for treatment, ensuring comfort and accuracy in alignment.
  • Operate and maintain radiation therapy equipment, ensuring proper functionality.
  • Review and verify treatment plans, prescriptions, and patient records.
  • Monitor patients during treatment for adverse reactions or changes in condition, taking appropriate action if necessary.
  • Collaborate with radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, and medical physicists to deliver optimal care.
  • Educate patients and their families about treatment procedures, side effects, and post-treatment care.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of treatments, adjustments, and patient progress.
  • Adhere to safety protocols to minimize radiation exposure to patients, staff, and self.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities and continuous professional development.

Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Radiation Therapy or related field.
  • Certification and licensure as a Radiation Therapist (e.g., ARRT certification).
  • In-depth understanding of human anatomy, radiation physics, and oncology.
  • Strong technical skills to operate complex medical equipment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to support patients emotionally and physically.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and adapt to fast-paced environments.

Work Environment:
Radiation Therapists typically work in hospitals, cancer treatment centers, or outpatient clinics. The role may involve standing for long periods and occasional exposure to radiation, mitigated by strict safety measures.
