Job Title: CT (Computed Tomography) Technologist
Job Summary: The CT Technologist is responsible for operating computed tomography (CT) imaging equipment to produce detailed images of the body for diagnostic purposes. This role requires a high level of technical skill, attention to detail, and the ability to follow strict safety protocols to ensure high-quality imaging while minimizing patient risk. The CT Tech works closely with radiologists and other healthcare professionals to assess, monitor, and care for patients during the imaging process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate CT scanners to obtain high-quality images of patients' internal structures for diagnostic purposes.
- Position patients properly on the CT table and explain the procedure to ensure patient comfort and safety.
- Ensure accurate and timely imaging by adjusting equipment settings based on physician orders and patient needs.
- Monitor patients during scans, ensuring they remain still and following instructions to obtain the best possible images.
- Ensure patient safety by adhering to established safety protocols, such as radiation exposure control measures.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation for imaging procedures performed.
- Collaborate with physicians, radiologists, and other healthcare staff to review images and help with diagnosis.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with CT equipment as needed.
- Maintain and sanitize imaging equipment and work area in accordance with infection control protocols.
- Follow hospital or clinic guidelines and policies, including those related to patient care, confidentiality, and radiation safety.
- Stay current with advancements in imaging technology and best practices for patient care.
Qualifications:
- Certification in Radiologic Technology (ARRT) and specialized certification in CT (CT ARRT or equivalent) required.
- Associate's degree in Radiologic Technology or related field; bachelor’s degree is a plus.
- Proven experience as a CT technologist, or in a related radiology role, is preferred.
- Strong understanding of anatomy, medical imaging, and radiation safety protocols.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient interaction and collaboration with medical staff.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment while ensuring patient care and safety.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification may be required.
Working Conditions:
- The CT Technologist works in a hospital or clinical setting, which may include standing for extended periods, lifting patients, and exposure to radiation.
- Regular shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, may be required depending on the healthcare facility’s operational hours.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move patients, some of whom may require assistance.
- Stamina to stand or walk for long periods of time.
- Vision and manual dexterity necessary to operate complex imaging equipment and adjust patient positions.
