Job Description

Job Title: Laboratory Director
Location: Mayfield, KY
Compensation: $98,000 - $110,000 annually (depending on experience)

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and Implement Departmental Goals & Standards: Establish and implement departmental goals, plans, and standards that align with the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.
  • Direct and Evaluate Operations: Oversee the daily operations of the department, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management. Ensure the achievement of performance and quality control objectives.
  • Staffing Management: Plan and monitor staffing activities, including recruitment, orientation, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and continuing education programs to maintain a high standard of staff competency.
  • Budget Management: Prepare, monitor, and evaluate the departmental budget, ensuring that the department operates within allocated funding while maintaining operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate Internal/External Audits: Oversee and direct internal and external audits to ensure compliance with regulations and best practices.
  • Foster Professional Growth: Create and cultivate an environment that promotes professional development and growth for all laboratory staff.
  • Integrate Evidence-Based Practices: Apply and incorporate evidence-based practices into laboratory operations and clinical protocols to ensure high-quality care and compliance with the latest industry standards.
  • Focus on Continuum of Care: Ensure that the laboratory department remains focused on its essential role in the overall patient care continuum.

Required Skills:

  • Strong critical thinking skills and decisive judgment abilities.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision while managing multiple responsibilities.
  • Capable of working in a high-pressure, stressful environment and taking appropriate action.
  • In-depth knowledge of laboratory operations, medical technology, and best practices.
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (Required)

Certifications:

  • ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) or equivalent certification (Required)

Experience:

  • Proven experience in laboratory operations, management, and leadership, with a strong background in overseeing laboratory staff and operations.
