Job Description

Histology Technician needed in the beautiful beach town of Panama City, Florida!! This is a temp to permanent or permanent position!!

Schedule: Fulltime Day shift Monday - Friday
Position overview:
Responsibilities:
  • Independently performs the major tasks involved in the routine preparation of histological slides from surgical and biopsy specimens (of human tissues) to include embedding, microtomy, mounting, and staining of tissue sections, and labeling of finished slides.
  • Independently performs small gross, clerical, and technical functions required for core front-end dermatopathology laboratory operations.
  • Prepares standard laboratory reagents and solutions with precision.
  • Operates basic laboratory equipment, such as tissue processors (standard and microwave), embedding station, tissue microtome, tissue stainer.
  • Schedules and loads tissue cassettes into the tissue processors to maximize workflow efficiency and troubleshoots any issues with the processor’s protocol.
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment and observe established safety procedures.
  • Keeps informed of current literature and techniques in histotechnology.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, and well-organized work area.
  • Performs self-auditing tasks for Quality Assurance protocols.
  • Performs lab maintenance to include cleaning, restocking and specimen discarding. Additionally, assists with special projects, as applicable and helps prepare weekly and monthly maintenance reports
  • Other duties, as assigned by supervisor.
Ideal Candidates:
  • Must have ASCP HT/ HLT certification and Florida Histology License.
  • Must be able to do Embedding, Microtomy, Staining, Special Stains, IHC, and able to file blocks and slides.
  • Must be proficient in Quality Control/Quality Assurance to comply with federal and state regulations.
  • Must have strong knowledge of specimen processing - prepare slides for pathologists, operate computerized laboratory equipment (vacuum infiltrating processor) to fix, dehydrate and infiltrate with paraffin tissue specimens.
