The Audiologist performs audiometric testing and evaluation for patients who have reached a standard threshold shift (STS) and require re-testing as per OSHA guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Review problem audiograms and compare with baseline and later
- Performs medical investigations into possible causes for employee hearing loss and makes work-relatedness determinations.
- Review the employee's occupational and non-occupational exposure history to noise, ototoxins, and the use of hearing protection devices (HPDs).
- Judge the likely contribution of occupational exposures.
- Determine if an STS is recordable or reportable to regulatory agencies.
- Counsel and advise patients regarding hearing loss and/or conservation efforts.
- Establish policies for adequate testing and appropriate use of audiometric and hearing-related questionnaire information.
- Review audiograms.
- Provide advice and guidance to the Hearing Protection Program
- Manager within the Safety, Health, and Environment Division.
- Provide advice and guidance to NIST management on Hearing Conservation efforts.
- Ensure audiometric testing equipment is functioning properly.
- Provide training to employees regarding hearing loss and its prevention.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Audiology PhD or AuD from an American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) accredited program.
- Board Certified by the American Board of Audiology (ABA), and/or hold the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
- Certified as a Professional Supervisor through the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation.
- Minimum of three (3) years of recent experience in occupational hearing conservation.

- Possess education, training, experience and documented current competence in the required specialty position description
